CARE-LA
CHILD ANXIETY REDUCTION EXPERTS
Rachel earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from California Lutheran University. She has spent the past three years working as an
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist in the Conejo Valley Unified School District, providing
mental health services to elementary school-aged children. Prior to becoming a therapist, Rachel
worked as a special education teacher in a TK–kindergarten classroom supporting autistic students.
This experience has given her a strong foundation in child development, neurodiversity, learning
differences and the school environment.
Rachel has experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing anxiety,
ADHD, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), emotional regulation difficulties, school-related stress, social challenges, self-esteem concerns, learning differences, and family transitions. She has also facilitated social skills groups focused on communication, perspective-taking, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and developing and maintaining friendships. Her school-based experience has allowed her to collaborate closely with parents, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to support children’s emotional, social, behavioral, and academic needs.
Rachel’s therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and developmentally informed. She draws from
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and person-
centered approaches while incorporating creative interventions including art and sand tray. Rachel has completed advanced training in the Oaklander Model of Gestalt Play Therapy and particularly enjoys using engaging, developmentally appropriate strategies to help younger clients understand their emotions, manage anxiety, develop practical coping skills, and build confidence.
Rachel is passionate about creating a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where children and
families feel understood and comfortable being themselves. She works collaboratively with clients and
families to build on their strengths, strengthen relationships, and develop the skills needed to navigate
everyday challenges and create meaningful change. Supervision is provided by Dr. Erin Cantwell, PhD.
